8th Lexington Peace Fair

image005BCTC’s Students for Peace & Earth Justice invite you to participate in the 8th Lexington Peace Fair. This day of peace brings together people and organizations in our community working for social and economic justice, building ecological resilience, preserving nature, teaching peace, and creating a more diverse and beautiful community.

While BCTC is not able to provide funding this year, we are grateful for the use of the space, the help of maintenance staff (including the use of the college’s tables), and encouragement.

If you’d like to have space at this year’s festival, please read the information that follows and complete this form.

If you plan to sell baked goods, please let us know because we have to get permission from the health department. If you plan to sell anything (homemade, fair trade, local), please consider donating some part of your proceeds to a worthy cause.

Central Kentucky Council for Peace & Justice is hosting a “Peace is Possible” contest for K-12 students. That flyer is attached here.

Also consider reserving one of the new specialty license plates for peace.

The final design was approved in November. The sponsoring organization, Central Kentucky Council for Peace and Justice, has until May 29th to get 900 reservations for the plate. Once that happens, the plate will go into production. As plates begin to be purchased, $10/plate will come back to the council for statewide K-12 peace education.

The reservation form and a brochure about the plate are attached here. Please help us get to 900, so this beautiful message can start making its appearance throughout the state and beyond.

Thank you so much for considering being part of this year’s peace fair, and for reserving your Kentucky peace plate.

Dr. Ruth Schwartz and Dr. Michelle Murrain, a joyful couple and the co-founders of Conscious Girlfriend, a new resource helping queer women and lesbians develop the tools to create and sustain happy, healthy relationships. This is an exciting endeavor, because as you know, there is so little out there like this for our community!

Their motto is:

“End drama, fights and heartbreak – and begin the love life you want and deserve.”

Their work emerges from their backgrounds in psychology, neuroscience and spirituality, as well as their own long personal experiences. Their website offers many free resources, including videos, online and phone classes, articles and an advice column. Plus, anyone who signs up for the mailing list receives a free booklet, “The Five Keys to a Happy Lesbian Relationship.”

In May, they will host their first live Conscious Girlfriend weekend retreat!

The Gay and Lesbian Services Organization (GLSO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Lexington, KY that strives to improve the quality of GLBTQQIA individuals’ lives in Central and Eastern Kentucky.

The GLSO operates the only Pride Center in Kentucky, which is often utilized as a free meeting space for GLBTQQIA organizations in the community. For more than 30 years, a monthly newsletter has been published and distributed all over Kentucky. And for the past few years, the GLSO has planned and executed the Lexington Pride Festival with help from many wonderful volunteers from the community.

On Wednesday, April 9, Kentucky Gives Day will bring charities and Kentuckians together for a powerful day of action. From 12:00 am to 11:59 pm EST, supporters of participating Kentucky nonprofits can go online to connect with causes they care about and make tax-deductible donations. The top five organizations in each leaderboard category that raise the most money will receive bonus prizes of $2,500, $1,500, $1,000, $500 and $250 respectively. In addition, 10 “Golden Tickets” – mini prizes of $100 or $250 will be given to organizations throughout the day.

April 9 is your chance! Donate to GLSO on KY Gives Day and join other GLSO supporters in a statewide “flashmob of giving.” Everyone can be a philanthropist – a $25 donation will make an incredible difference!
