The Late Night Film Series

The Late Night Film Series, OUTsource, and the MLK Center are proud to present guest filmmaker Dream Hampton with the Ruth Ellis Center.

On Friday, March 28th at 5:30PM Emani Love and Racquelle Trammel from the Ruth Ellis Center will be presenting a lecture titled “Realness: A Conversation on Gender Identity”.

The lecture will be free in Worsham Theater.

At 7PM, director Dream Hampton will present a rough cut of her film TransParent, which is still under production. A discussion with Dream Hampton will follow.

The film is a film about the life of Shelley “Treasure” Hilliard, a Detroit 19-year-old girl, beloved by her family and friends, and her murder – a hate crime that wasn’t prosecuted as one. It is about projections and perceptions and communities misrepresented and misunderstood. TransParent is about a grieving mother and her commitment to honor her daughter, Treasure.

The film will be shown for free in Worsham Theater

Following the film there will be a reception with the director in the MLK Center. Free refreshments will be served.

Dream Hampton is a critically acclaimed filmmaker and author. She was the associate producer for VH1’s Emmy award-winning “Behind the Music: Notorious B.I.G.” and her short film “I Am Ali” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won Best Short Film at Vanity Fair’s Newport Film Festival in 2002. She was a contributor to Vibe, the Village Voice, and Spin for 15 years, and she collaborated with Jay-Z on his New York Times’ bestselling book, “Decoded”.

The Ruth Ellis Center, located in Highland Park, Michigan, was founded by LGBT activist Ruth Ellis and is only one of four centers in the US that serves homeless LGBT kids and teenagers.
